My best friend of over 25 years has insulted me to the quick. I don't know if it's really my fault, but I think I want an grovelling apology. I'm not sure I want to see her again. I'm not sure I don't. There's other factors involved here, obviously, but the basics are about a thoughtless and extremely hurtful comment she made.

I'm still angry 18+ months later and I know it's to the point I either forget it or tell her to fuck off.

I still don't know what to do, so logically, the latter option is not happening. I just need to gather my thoughts together and figure out a way to talk to her, which I (still) don't want to do yet.

Sad, sad Maggie Nov. 15th, 2008 @ 10:28 pm

I will not be getting a cat. The reasons are myriad and logical (many mounds of free-standing craft materials is one of them) and Apricot will be staying at her present home.
I feel guilty. I'm slightly depressed and feeling foolish. I really had thought that having a cat would be eady, but as I started on the journey and attempted to cat-proof my home, I quickly realised that I had been kidding myself.

*sigh*

Later. Much later. I have self-pitying to do and chocolate to eat.

God, I'm a flake.
I am. A small one, but a flake none the less. I can't do things I want to do, plan to do or distantly promise to do. In fact, it's bad enough that even with being middle-aged, I can't get myself to do homework unless I'm on a deadline.
Blah.

I'm off to go do something my body won't let me ignore.  Guess what it is - I'm not telling.

The VGT Omnivore’s Hundred:

1. Venison

3. Huevos rancheros
4. Steak tartare
5. Crocodile
6. Black pudding - not my thing.
7. Cheese fondue
8. Carp
9. Borscht both Russian and Vegetarian (homemade) I prefer the latter.
10. Baba ghanoush homemade - yum.

14. Aloo gobi
15. Hot dog from a street cart
16. Epoisses
17. Black truffle
18. Fruit wine made from something other than grapes. Living in the UK, it's a common thing.
19. Steamed pork buns.
20. Pistachio ice cream
21. Heirloom tomatoes - probably
22. Fresh wild berries I grow 'em (fragaria vesca  - wild strawberries) Plus there's brambles on the fields.

26. Raw Scotch Bonnet pepper ditto.
27. Dulce de leche God, I wish I was back in Phoenix. . .

30. Bagna cauda
31. Wasabi peas munching on some right now.
32. Clam chowder in a sourdough bowl I love clam chowder, but not sourdough - but it's something you have to eat once while in SF.

38. Vodka jelly/Jell-O WHY? There's better ways of getting drunk.
39. Gumbo
40. Oxtail  One of the things I miss - my dad's homemade oxtail spaghetti sauce, simmered slowly overnight. *drool*.
41. Curried goat
42. Whole insects plain and covered in chocolate - I prefer chocolate covered ones - I like the crunch.

There's a few items on here I think I've tried, but I just can't remember, so I left them be.

Too many things on here I'll never eat again. *sigh*. The "trials" of becoming a vegetarian. *snicker*. I don't actually regret it. I have MANY wonderful food memories - things I'll never get "sick of" and that I'll be able to think back fondly upon.

There are things on this list I'd like to try, but just don't have the resources to (#84, 46 and 59 of the top of my head). Ah well. One day, maybe.

I'm getting a kitten. Well, if nothing goes wrong, I'll be getting a kitten. My best friend's cats had kittens - two litters - about 9 kittens in total. The first litter was already spoken for, so I waited for the second litter. They were born (4 - 1 boy, 3 girls), I made plans to go down - well, I was already going to go down to my Friend's, just happened that there were kittens old enough to be seen, and held. So, before I arrived, the little boy had an lethal accident. Poor kitten So that left me with 2 females to look at, since one was staying home. Supposedly. I get there. Three cute kittens, and two appealed to me. Turns out that one of the two is staying home, so I put dibs on the other, and named her Apricot. She's very sweet, and the runt of the litter. So she might turn out to be the same size as her mum - mackeral/white long haired tabby, name of Donut - sweet thing. Dad's huge - ginger alley cat, name of Biggles - he's sweet too, just more of an outdoor cat.

I'm waffling - I'll post now.

» I have succumbed to the mobile revolution. . .finally.

I'm not completely happy with it either. I on't like the size of the phone (too small). I don't like the volume of the output speaker (too loud) and I don't know how to adjust it so hearing my friend speak is bearable. I hold the phone away from my ear to deal with it and therefore the speech gets muffled. Grr.
I've got the cheapest new phone available from T-mobile, an LG PK100 (£10). It's fine, it does the job for calling and texting. But I want more features now (availablity of better ringtones, really - I can generate my own SO easily) , a volume control and a flip-front phone so the keyboard is protected and It becomes larger when I want to talk.
That's all. I think the next one up, a nokia does all that, and is hands-free as well.

I'll find out next time I go downtown. I'll see if I can upgrade for another £10. If I have to pay the full price (£20) I'll do that.

I'm off.
I've got to go slug-hunting to protect my growing peas, beans and tomatoes. Not to mention the myriad of other plants in my container garden.

» Why? What am I doing?
I was bugged/harassed by an "friend", many years ago (don't ask the time-line, I don't see them anymore) about studying for an arts degree. At the time, I had just started a science degree course with the Open University.
I was doing quite a bit of crafting, so I suppose that indicated I had an abstract thought process.
I knew in my heart that going down that path of study would not be interesting to me. But I put the idea in the back of my memory and let it stew.
I was in the second half of classes for the science degree and wanted something to "relieve the boredom" so to speak.
I love science, don't get me wrong, as I have a highly analytical mind. But that idea of getting an arts degree had been percolating.

So I took a coupe arts courses. They weren't bad. I'm in the third year of classes and I'm bored shitless. I'm at present, halfway through an Art History class and I'm going to be sending off an essay tonight. I'm Bored. Can I say that again? BOOOOOORRRRED. Can I quit now? I hate writing subjective essays. HATE IT!

At this point I don't care about the fucking degree, he money, the time I've put into the course. I want to quit. But I won't. I'll slog through this tedious course, learning details and writing pointless essays because. . .

Beats the shit out of me why, but i'll finish this damned course. BUt the next one's going to be science-related. Fuck Arts, "liberal arts" and all associated with it. I hate you all. You're crap.

I'm done. Got to go finish a crappy essay.

Not from this, but away from LiveJournal. I'm no longer posting in it, but I am going to be keeping that account there, but only because there's a few on my friends list there that I wouldn't be able to view without being able to log in.

Yeah, okay, I'm being lame. Wishy-washy. Indecisive. Straddling the fence.

I know, shit-or-get-off-the-pot.

The problem is, I don't care about either LiveJournal OR InsaneJournal. They're blogging templates and they do the job. If I actually had written regularly (Daily, Weekly or Monthly instead of Yearly) in LiveJournal I MIGHT be making a statement by leaving. As it is, I'm just one very quiet teeny flea and LiveJounal wouldn't notice (or give a shit) if I left tomorrow. I don't pay for my journal, and I don't have a Plus account, so they don't make money off me - in fact, LiveJournal would probably wish for me to go, so a new bod could come along and make them some money - after all, from the end of April, all new accounts in LiveJournal are either going to be Plus accounts or paid accounts.

I wish them "luck". From the fomenting occurring lately, looks like they're going to need it.

» Memories and cursing. . .
A few years ago (quite a few years ago), I was in Blackpool, attending an Pagan Federation conference. Some interesting things were said by some people.

One thing I've rememebered over the years was from a lecture (my memory is bad, but I think the speaker was Marion Green) about The "history" of paganism/wicca and magic use in general.
A young lady stood up in the audience (NOT me) and asked "How do you feel about cursing someone?"
The lecturer replied "Would you get behind the wheel of a car and run them down, killing them?"
The young lady paused for a second and answered "No".
"Then," the lecturer continued "if you're not willing to take that kind of responsibility for harming a person, then don't even consider cursing someone."

That little exchange stood me in good stead - until this last month.
I've developed a teeny little hated for someone - I'd not only drive over this "man", but I'd wait until he started to move, drive over him again, wait for a bit and then back over him, hoping to hear things squish. Bastard.

*grr*. He'll get his. Slowly, if I have anything to do with it.

Night.

Funny - I read most of the ones I bolded over 20 years ago. I still have most of those as well - even "Catcher in the Rye" (for as much as I loathe that book). *s*.
I also actually am in the middle of reading some books on this list - it's just that I'm not done with them, so I can't (and don't want to) italic them - like, "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell" - that's a REALLY good book, just not finished it yet - and I don't know when I'll get it finished. . .probably next year *grin*. It's not that I read slow - I don't at all - but sometimes I have to be in the mood for reading certain books.

I'm feeling my age.
There's a preview on one of the terrestrial channels (I think it's ITV) for a spy movie (possibly thriller) coming up for transmission. The baddie in it is gray/white-haired.
Is it wrong that when I see him, the first thing I think is "Hey, there's Arthur Dent! He's survived well!".

Well, yet another journal I can ignore. Since getting broadband, I spend a lot more time on the 'net and subsequently, have to spend time finding things to do. So I've updated in journals more and signed up for stuff that I normally wouldn't have the time to find - like this.
I think that this is not bad for what it is. And while I wish there were more selectons for the journal styles, I'm not a subscriber, so I'll live with what's there.

*grin*

I'm happy. I'm off to knit.

I jumped here becasue I'm becoming a bit disenchanted with Live Journal's policies. I want somewhere I can go to let go without the thought that people with more money than decency attempt to be dictators just because they can. It moderately pisses me off.
